CAMDEN SPECIAL SERVICES DISTRICT NAMES
NEW ADVISORY BOARD CHAIRMAN AND BOARD MEMBERS

Camden, NJ -- Louis Bezich, Chief of Staff to the President, Cooper University Hospital has been named chairman of the Camden Special Services District’s 2012 Advisory Board. Larry Gaines, Vice Chancellor, Rutgers University Camden was named vice-chairman.

The Camden Special Services District (“CSSD”) is the business improvement district in Downtown Camden, running a traditional clean and safe program to improve the physical appearance of the City. Uniformed ambassadors, commonly known as the “Yellow Jackets”, give Camden the benefit of clean streets and an enhanced sense of safety and hospitality. In doing so, the program improves Downtown for existing businesses and helps spark new investment.

The CSSD is funded by voluntary contributions coming from more than 30 different sources, including the major institutional anchors in the city, local government and private businesses. The program provides enhanced clean & safe services such as trash removal, sidewalk and street sweeping, power washing, graffiti removal while adding another uniformed presence on the streets of Camden. Applying capitalistic strategies to achieve a philanthropic goal, the CSSD is a social enterprise.  All employees of the Clean & Safe program are Camden residents, and through their employment are making the City a better place to live, work, visit and invest.

With assistance from the City of Camden’s Urban Enterprise Zone, CSSD also provides clean and safe services for crucial neighborhood commercial corridors in the City, including Broadway, Federal Street, Haddon Avenue, Mt. Ephraim, River Avenue, Kaighn Avenue and Yorkship Square.  Although the program works closely with the local government and law enforcement, it does not duplicate the efforts of any other group or public agency. CSSD does not provide police services or take on the traditional responsibilities of the city government.

The CSSD Advisory Board provides crucial guidance and assistance to guide the deployment of the CSSD resources. Advisory Board members for 2012 include:

"At the heart of the community building efforts are the Greater Camden Partnership and Cooper's Ferry Development Association, a team now officially merged into a single entity. Already responsible for important achievements along the riverfront for example, these institutions are the vehicle helping to nurture and shape the city's renaissance."
